PPE Requirement Specification Prompt

Prompt

Specify PPE requirements by job type. Job types: [HVAC, PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, RESTORATION]. Hazards for each: [IDENTIFY]. Output: Required PPE by job type. Fit and maintenance requirements. Inspection frequency. Replacement protocol. Cost and budget. Technician sign-off (understood and will comply).

Why it works

Specifying PPE by job type rather than by general hazard category ensures technicians know exactly what they need before each job rather than relying on judgment in the field. Including fit, maintenance, and replacement protocols reflects that PPE only works when it fits properly and is in good condition — a damaged hard hat or expired respirator cartridge provides no protection. The technician sign-off section creates the documentation that OSHA requires to show employees were trained on PPE requirements.

Watch out for

PPE specifications must be reviewed by a qualified safety professional against OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.132 for general industry or 1926.95 for construction — the AI will produce a reasonable specification framework but regulatory compliance requires verification against current standards. Also note that PPE is the last line of defence in the hierarchy of controls: engineering and administrative controls should be addressed before relying on PPE.
