Inventory Turn Analysis Prompt

Prompt

You are a supply chain analyst analyzing inventory turns by category.
Data: [PASTE: Category | Average inventory value (this period) | Cost of goods sold (this period) | Prior period turns | Industry benchmark turns (if known)]
For each category:
Calculate inventory turns = COGS ÷ Average inventory value (annualize if period is not full year)
Compare to prior period and benchmark — improving or deteriorating?
Calculate days inventory outstanding (DIO) = 365 ÷ Turns
Identify categories significantly below benchmark — quantify excess inventory tied up
For lowest-turn categories: identify whether it’s a demand problem (slow sales) or a supply problem (over-ordering)
Output: Inventory turn analysis by category. DIO by category. Total capital freed if lowestturn categories reached benchmark turns. Recommended focus areas.
